What I Believe

Six things every plan I write is built on

No fads, no junk miles, no copy-paste schedules. Just the principles that get any runner to the start line fit, fresh and ready to run a PB.

Train the runner, not the textbook

Your plan matches what you'll actually do: your real frequency, your life, your cross-training. Not an ideal week you can't sustain.

Mostly easy, properly hard

Around 80% of your running is genuinely easy, so the 20% that's hard can be done right. Easy days easy, hard days count.

The long run is the engine

It climbs gradually toward race distance from where you are now, never crammed into the final weeks, where it does more harm than good.

Consistency beats heroics

Repeatable weeks with a recovery week every fourth. Turning up week after week beats the occasional monster session you pay for later.

Stay healthy first

The fittest plan is worthless if you're injured. I watch your load and flag the single-run spikes that actually cause most injuries.

Evidence over dogma

I use the method that fits you, not my favourite one, and I adapt when the science does.

Your Plan

Your plan isn't pulled off a shelf

1

I start with your data

Your recent volume, longest run, paces, races and wellness, so I'm coaching the real you, not a guess.

2

I choose the method that fits

Daniels, polarised 80/20, FIRST, Hansons, Lydiard, picked for your goal and history, not my favourite, then shaped to you.

3

I set your paces and structure

Training zones off your real fitness, a 3:1 load-to-recovery rhythm, a long run that builds to race-ready, and a taper that lands you fresh.

4

I write it around your life

Your parkrun, strength work and rest days are part of the plan, not fought against. Every session is written by me, for you, and never auto-piloted.

What to Expect

What working with me actually looks like

A plan that's yours from day one

Personally designed for your goal, your history and your life, with the science behind every session. Never a template with your name on it.

A plan that flexes

Life happens. Illness, travel, a rough week, and I adjust it around you. It's a conversation, not a contract.

Straight feedback

I'll tell you what's working and what isn't, honestly, but never harshly. You'll always know where you stand.

You'll always see the why

Every session has a reason behind it, your trends are in front of you, and your race prediction updates as you train. No black boxes.

Your part of the deal

Log your runs and your wellness, and aim for consistent rather than perfect. The better I can see your training, the better I can coach it.

The Science

Modern coaching, not received wisdom

The reasons it works aren't a secret. Here's the evidence your plan is built on.

80/20 holds up

The easy-hard split that consistently wins out in the research. Strong, low-risk, and forgiving when you're building back volume.

It's the spike, not the week

The biggest predictor of running injury is a single run longer than your recent longest, not weekly mileage. So I cap how fast your long run grows and flag the spikes. Garmin-RUNSAFE, BJSM 2025.

Recovery is training

You get fitter when you rest, not when you run. Every block has a down week, and it matters more, not less, as we get older.

Durability, not just speed

I track how your efficiency holds up late in long efforts, because races are won in the last third, not the first.

Ready to make every run count?

The plan you get is mine, written for you, backed by the science, and watched every week. Tell me your goal and let's see what's still on the table.
